Cooking the Books with Emily Gould, guest star Tao Lin
I don’t have a single negative thing to say about either of these people. I only know who Emily Gould is, not what her work currently entails, and I am only fleetingly familiar with Tao Lin’s work (which, at the time, I “got” and “enjoyed”, while at the same time “wondering” if he was tricking “all of us” into thinking he was a “good” author), but I do just have to say this:
I have never seen a more naturally awkward interview in my life.
They are obtrusively awkward. Outwardly awkward. They are not trying to hide that they probably don’t do well at large social events, which is admirable, I guess? I couldn’t even finish this interview because it was making me uncomfortable.
You can tell that they both just want their laptops. That’s what I see. Two people hanging out with other people, wanting so desperately to check their GMail on their MacBooks.
Gotta love that crazyTao Lin!
All I’m thinking while watching...looking awkward: “Is this how people see me when
interview ever produced on video. It should be put in...some small midwestern town.
